About Me

Hey! My name is Martijn van der Meer, I’m 28 years old and I live in Edam, The Netherlands. I was born there as well. I’m a (learning) Unity Developer, but have experience with a lot of coding languages.

I have been a huge fan of gaming ever since I was young, the older I grew the more interest I gained in the code and mechanics behind the games. Gaming was really my only hobby before, but I guess coding could also be considered a hobby. I enjoy talking to friends and playing games with them, I am a good listener and quite creative. I tend take a more realistic approach to thinking about projects, which usually happens when people want to think big. I work well with other people, because they are usually the driving force behind the projects, while I tend to keep them in check on what they would be able to accomplish and what they wouldn’t be able to.

I started getting into coding during high school, starting out with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. My later studies also got me involved in coding with PHP, SQL, Python and C#. I’ve always wanted to work with the Unity Engine and I’m happy to finally be able to do so at Mediacollege Amsterdam.

One of my biggest inspirations has to be Nintendo, though a lot of smaller studios also inspire me to create good games. I’ve always known that graphics don’t make the games, since I grew up during the (somewhat) early years of gaming. My biggest ambition has to be starting my own small Indie business, or joining a small game studio, though I wouldn’t say no to joining a big or well-known studio.
